Just another benefit to hiring an apprentice …

Work Cover savings for employers that hire apprentices

Hiring an apprentice … WorkCover Queensland has announced that to encourage business to hire more apprentices, employers who do employ apprentices will be offered an ‘apprentice discount’.

What does this mean?

From 1 July 2017 employers will be able to remove apprenticeship wages from their premium calculation.  WorkCover stated that a major factor in an employer’s premium calculation is the payment of wages to the employees.

To qualify for the discount, an employer must employ and pay wages to at least one apprentice. To be regarded as an apprentice for workers’ compensation purposes, the worker must sign a training contract with their employer to undertake an apprenticeship declared under the Further Education and Training Act 2014. This does not include trainees.

Currently, SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is offered by Far North Training & Consultancy as an apprenticeship program.
