Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are available to anyone who is of working age. You do not need a secondary school certificate or other qualification to be able to do an Australian Apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are also available to school leavers, or those seeking to change jobs or those seeking to re-enter the workforce or as an adult apprentice. You are also eligible to do an apprenticeship while you are still at school finishing years 11 and 12.

Apprenticeships provide you with an opportunity to train, study and earn an income at a wide variety of occupations. An example of this is our Certificate III Individual Support. This course is also on the National Skills List due to being a shortage of skilled workers.

Traineeships

Traineeships like apprenticeships can be full-time, part-time or school-based. The main difference between an apprentice and a trainee is that apprentices are trained in a ‘skilled’ trade where on completion of their training the apprentice becomes a ‘qualified tradesperson’.

Trainees, on the other hand, are trained in vocational areas such as office administration, hospitality, beauty and tourism. Upon successful completion, a trainee will receive a qualification in their chosen vocational area.

Apprenticeships and traineeships require employers to enter into a training contract with the apprentice or trainee, which is a legally binding agreement to work and train together for a length of time.

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SAT)

School-based apprentices and trainees undertake their training as part of their high school studies, (generally in years 10, 11 and 12). This enables the individual to gain valuable credit points towards the QCE. It provides a qualification upon successful completion in their chosen area.  It also assists to make the individual work ready and gain practical skills in an adult learning environment.

Additionally, you learn from industry professionals who have current industry knowledge and skills.
