Career Start provides individuals with the skills and support to start their career. It provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship. Career Start supports delivery of entry level training to students, apprentices and trainees aligned with the sill outcomes require by industry. Career Start offers either a general training pathway or employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway. To be eligible to received Career Start funding, individuals will be required to meet certain eligibility requirements.
Under Career Start, an individual may access up to two funding training places through one of the following options;
a general qualification in a certificate III under the general training pathway and
an apprenticeship or traineeship. If the apprenticeship or traineeship is comp0leted first, you are not eligible to access a general training pathway qualification under Career Start.
OR
two apprenticeships/traineeships at either certificate II or III, including school based apprenticeships or traineeships (SATs)
In addition, under Career Start, individuals may access one subsided introductory level skill set. An individual cannot do two general pathway qualifications under Career Start.
Career Start gives eligible individuals the opportunity to complete a full certificate III qualification that leads to a job outcome or career advancement. To do this, the Queensland Government subsidises the cost of training for eligible students and provides greater choice by allowing more training providers to deliver government subsidised training.

be aged 15 years or older
not be a school student
permanently reside in Queensland
be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
not already have a certificate III or higher qualification, completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills training do not count).
not be enrolled in another qualifications, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundations skills qualifications do not count)

In addition to the eligibility criteria outlined above, some subsided qualifications and skill sets may have specific entry restrictions or exemptions. Career Start concessional participant requirements
Under Career Start, concessional participants are defined as follows:
The participant holds a health care concession card or pensioner concession card; or
The participant holds an official form under Commonwealth law confirming that the participant is entitled to concessions under a health care concession card or pensioner concession card; or the participant is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
The Participant has a Disability — pensioner concession card or other documentation verifying the holder has disability.
Career Start entitlement
Eligible participants will no longer be eligible for a subsidised training place under Career Start once they complete a Certificate Level III qualification.
Refund policy
Refunds must be requested in writing, seven days prior to withdrawal. Withdrawal request must be made on the withdrawal request form. This must be signed by the student and if applicable a referring third party. Units will be refunded on a unit by unit basis for all units not commenced.
