Learn the basics of working in hospitality including industry info and workplace practices.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.

Packaging Rules

To complete this qualification you will need to complete 12 units .

  • 6 core units and 6 elective units

Electives may vary depending on job role or local industry requirements.

Core Units

  • BSBTWK201 Work effectively with others

  • SITHIND006 Source and use information on the hospitality industry

  • SITHIND007 Use hospitality skills effectively

  • SITXCCS011 Interact with customers

  • SITXCOM007 Show social and cultural sensitivity

  • SITXWHS005 Participate in safe work practices.

Elective Units

  • SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety

  • SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol

  • SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee

  • SITHFAB022 Clean and tiny bar areas

  • SITHFAB024 Prepare and serve non alcoholic beverages

  • SITXFINN007 Process financial transactions

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for entry to this qualification, however Far North Training & Consultancy has the following selection criteria for this course:

  • The participant will be required before enrolling to complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment to determine what level of support the participant may need to assist them through their study program.

Licensing Requirements

There are no licensing requirements for this qualification.

Delivery

  • Face-to-face in a small group training environment located in Mossman.

  • For participants under contract with the Australian Apprenticeship Centre and an Employer, delivery of training will be in the workplace.

  • This course requires students to undertake 12 service periods in a Hospitality environment as part of their course, therefore transport to the work placement is required.  Students will also need suitable attire, white polo shirt, black shorts and enclosed black shoes.

Awards Issued

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the Qualification:

  • SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality.

Duration

Program duration for a full time student is an average of 4-6 months. Some students may complete the course part time in 12 months.

Location

The program can be delivered at Far North Training & Consultancy at 11 Johnston Rd, Mossman, or on-site at each individual employer’s venue in Far North Queensland.
